Overview
This project started with me wanting to design a children's book that captured that textured, abstract look of Eric Carle's work. "Kitty's First Climb" became a full campaign with two promotional posters and branding. The book centers around a kitten's adventure and the idea that trying new things can be exciting rather than scary.
Project Brief
Challenge:
Design a cohesive three-piece campaign featuring a poster, print media, and third component that demonstrates strong typography and layout design.
Strategy:
I was inspired by Eric Carle's illustration style, so textures and abstract shapes were prioritized. I designed each piece with both children and parents in mind, creating a cohesive visual system that felt warm and adventurous.
Solution:
A children's book campaign featuring an illustrated story, two promotional posters, and publisher branding, all unified by layered textures and a warm, inviting design.
Design Process
This project spanned about 3 months, and went through 3 rounds of critique from peers to refine the posters and overall concept. I spent a lot of time experimenting with textures and making sure the design elements worked well together across the book, posters, and branding.
Insights & Reflection
This was my first time really experimenting with textures in illustration, and it pushed me to experiment with layering in ways I hadn't before!
